The first “ESU - Korea Public Speaking Competition,” organized by the JoongAng Ilbo, JoongAng Daily and Ewha Womans University, and sponsored by HSBC, is under way.

The contest will be overseen by U.K.-based ESU, or the English-Speaking Union. Preliminary rounds of the competition began on March 15 and will run through May 10 online, while the final rounds will take place on June 13 at Ewha Womans University.

The competition aims to create a stage for cultural exchange through English as well as raise students’ international communication skills. Winners of local competitions will get a chance to participate in the international speaking competition held by ESU headquarters. Participants who are also OK Cashbag members can receive 3,000 points through a special event.
