The name is a little hard to explain, but WeAJa, a charity flea market planned for Sept. 16, promises to be a good time for a good cause. Held at the Northern Plaza of Seoul’s Sangam World Cup Stadium, and in three other cities ― Busan, Daejeon and Jeonju ― part of the proceeds will go to support education for children of low-income families. The market is co-hosted by the JoongAng Ilbo and the four city governments.
Both Koreans and expatriates are encouraged to participate in the one-day event, held from noon to 4 p.m.
Donations of new or like-new items are welcome. They will either be sold at the market or distributed to Beautiful Stores, a non-profit organization that sells donated goods and uses the proceeds for charity.
Those wishing to sell items may apply through the Internet at weaja.joins.com. Stalls are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and English is available at the site. English speakers can also email ngo21@joongang.co.kr or call (02) 751-9228, 9235 before Sept. 15.
Vendors are asked to donate 50 percent of their earnings.
